Frequently Asked Questions

What is RTS on iTunes U?

RTS on iTunes U is a free service that is part of the larger iTunes U program pioneered by Apple Inc. Apple started the program as an initiative for institutions of higher learning to provide free content to their students, but soon opened it up to the general public. Now, people everywhere have free access to courses and other content from the world's top colleges, universities, and graduate schools. To learn more about Apple's growing influence on education and mobile learning, please visit apple.com/education. If you are a school administrator and are looking for more information about the iTunes U program, including how you can bring iTunes U to your own institution, please visit iTunes U on Apple's website.

What is the vision for RTS on iTunes U?

RTS on iTunes U is a wonderful and unique opportunity to freely provide master's level seminary content to RTS students, supporters, and friends around the globe. It is our hope that these materials will be of great benefit to Christians around the world as they seek to understand God and his works more fully, grow in their sanctification, and take the gospel of Jesus Christ to every tribe, tongue, and nation.

How much does RTS on iTunes U content cost?

All RTS on iTunes U content is provided free of charge. However, this program is made possible, in part, by our generous friends and supporters. If you'd like more information on prayerfully considering a financial contribution to RTS, please visit the Get Involved page on this site.

How do I access RTS on iTunes U content?

RTS on iTunes U is available in the iTunes Store through the iTunes application on Macs and PCs, as well as the iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad. If you do not have the iTunes program installed on your computer, you can download it here. After you have the program installed you can navigate to the iTunes U section of the iTunes Store, or simply follow this link to be taken directly to RTS on iTunes U. For more detailed information on how to download, install, and use iTunes, please see the Getting Started page of this site.

Do I have to use the iTunes application to access RTS on iTunes U content?

We strongly recommend accessing RTS on iTunes U through the iTunes application. However, we know there are some users who use an unsupported operating system, such as Linux, or who wish to avoid using the iTunes application. Because of this, we have provided access to the RTS on iTunes U RSS Feeds that you can use to access and subscribe to our content.

Can I sync RTS on iTunes U content with my iPod, iPhone, or iPad?

Absolutely! For instructions on syncing content with an Apple device please see the Getting Started page of this site.

Do I have to have an iPod, iPhone, or iPad to use RTS on iTunes U?

All RTS on iTunes U content can be streamed directly in iTunes, downloaded through iTunes and transferred to an iPod, iPhone, or iPad, or to other compatible mobile devices. Please refer to the documentation provided by the developers and manufacturers of third-party software and devices for instructions on using them with downloaded media files.

What file formats does RTS on iTunes U use?

Most RTS on iTunes U audio content, including all RTS Virtual course content, has been in MP3 format since the beginning of the program. However, we will eventually be transitioning all audio content to AAC (Advanced Audio Codec) format. The reason for this transition is that AAC provides higher quality audio in a smaller file size than does MP3. Most major mobile devices now support the AAC format, so there should not be too many issues as a result of this transition. All video content on our site is in m4v format, and encoded using the H.264 codec.

Is RTS on iTunes U content copyright protected?

While RTS on iTunes U does not employ Digital Rights Management (DRM) on any of our content, all RTS on iTunes U materials are subject to copyright protection by Reformed Theological Seminary. The full Legal Agreement can be found on the main RTS website.

Some of the RTS on iTunes U lectures mention course notes or a course notebook. Is it possible to get these materials as well?

While syllabi (course requirements, textbooks, professor information, etc.) for active courses are freely available on the RTS Virtual website, course notebooks for active courses are only available to registered students. However, a select number of notebooks for Legacy Courses are available for purchase. Legacy Courses are RTS Virtual courses that are no longer available to be taken for credit.

Is there any difference between the RTS on iTunes U course lectures and the lectures for registered RTS Virtual students?

In most cases, the audio lectures within RTS on iTunes U are the very same lectures that RTS Virtual students use.

How can I get credit for listening to an RTS on iTunes U course?

Course credit is only available for registered students. For information on how you may obtain a Master of Arts (Religion) degree from the RTS Virtual Campus, please visit the RTS Virtual website.

I have something that I think would be a great fit for RTS on iTunes U. How can I get it on the site?

If you have something you would like to see on RTS on iTunes U, please visit the Contact page on this site to contact the RTS on iTunes U administrator.
